NextMovie Exclusive Q&A: Tom Sturridge �Forever� After - Kristen and OTR Mention

If you look closely at images of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart out and about together � at the airport,at a club, even that infamous, blurry, smooching shot � you�ll find a third person popping up.

But Tom Sturridge is no third wheel. The 25-year-old London native may be Pattinson�s best friend, but he�s an actor in his own right, and he�s ready to prove it with the new indie drama �Waiting for Forever� and an upcoming turn opposite Stewart in the much-buzzed-about adaptation of �On the Road.�

Following gigs in �Being Julia� and �Pirate Radio,� �Forever� finds Sturridge as Will, a pajama-wearing juggler who  follows his childhood best friend, Emma (Rachel Bilson), as she moves around the country without her knowing.

Chatting with NextMovie, the actor has some awesomely kind words for the likes of Bilson, Stewart and future Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield.

Some might call Will a stalker � how would you describe him?He�s someone who had witnessed his parent�s death � quite a traumatic experience � in his childhood which punctured his emotional development. I see him as a child following someone around; he follows someone around as a child would as opposed to the malevolence of a stalker� I think you stop being a stalker the moment you engage with the person you�re following, and the fact that they communicate changes things.


Speaking of your gorgeous co-stars, how has working with Kristen Stewart on the set of �On the Road� been?It was so terrifying entering into that world and what was great was just having someone that I knew and actually working with her. She�s just a f**king extraordinary actress, just really, really extraordinary and it�s astonishing just to see her do her job.


And how was shooting otherwise?It was genuinely, one of the deepest working experiences I�ve ever had. It was extraordinary.


What was so extraordinary about it?Well, firstly to be a part of that group to take on the filming of that novel � just to be a part of it is pretty f**king incredible in itself. And working with Walter Salles, who I think is one of the greatest directors alive, and then working with these actors who, to me, are the best actors working today and together trying to do justice to what is such a phenomenal novel. It was kind of amazing, and we were shooting for six months, we rehearsed for a month. It was such a massive part of my life.

We filmed in Montreal, New Orleans, San Francisco, New Mexico, Argentina. It was six month, and it was incredible. It was the most extraordinary working experience I�ve ever had. The combination of being a part of the people that get to bring that book to life and working with Walter Salles, who I think is one of the greatest directors living today, and working with the best group of young actors around at the moment. It was such an astonishing experience.

How did you feel when you were cast?

It was incredible, I felt incredible. It was the best feeling. It was the perfect casting moment. All of us auditioned for it almost 3 years ago, and about 4 months before we started filming, Walter summoned me to New York to have lunch with him and we had this long, incredible lunch over hours talking about the book and thoughts and ideas. At the end of the lunch he told me �I want you to come on this journey with me

Is Tom Sturridge Ready For American Media Spotlight?

Tom Sturridge, the British actor best known for his work in Pirate Radio (The Boat That Rocked), is about to be thrust into the center of the American media spotlight if his new movie, Waiting For Forever, picks up steam for its February release date.

Sturridge, who�s biggest gossip staple has been linked to Carey Mulligan, is starring in the quirky romantic comedy, Waiting For Forever, directed by James Keach and also starring The OC star, Rachel Bilson. I had a chance to view the film and had a Q and A with Keach, and the movie is a sweet �Benny and Joon� like gem.

Waiting For Forever�s trailer premiered a few weeks a go to favorable comments from bloggers. Over the past few years Sturridge has mainly only been in the news as being Twilight actor, Robert Pattinson�s, back up man, usually photographed in the background of pictures of Kristen Stewart and Pattinson.

Interview with Dee Marie - Author of Sons of Avalon: Merlin's Prophecy: she plays with the possible cast (Rob mentions)

If this were to be made into a movie, who would you like to play the major roles?

I think every author ponders which Hollywood stars would best bring their characters to life. I did not have any specific actors in mind when I wrote the book. However, since its publication, I have been on a constant "talent search." Now, when I watch a movie or television show, I scrutinize the cast for "possible" players in a movie version of Sons of Avalon: Merlin's Prophecy.

This is my current casting call, which is always subject to change, due to the fluctuation of new talented streaming into Hollywood, or simply my fickle whims.

Merlin: Zac Efron (High School Musical)...I know he is an odd choice for the passionate brooding lead. He does have Merlin's features...features far too pretty to be wasted on a male. As to date, he has not stretched his acting range. Yet, I detect something smoldering beneath the surface, and I believe he would deliver a powerful performance.

Uther: Jonathan Rhys Meyers (The Tutors, Alexander)...With his intense emotional diversity, Jonathan was "born" to play the part of Uther Pendragon. I actually had a dream where he accepted the part of Uther...I love those kind of dreams .

Ambrosius: Jared Leto (Alexander, Lord of War)...Again, I am sure he would not be the first pick of many to play the part of Ambrosius, but I have followed his career, and he is my first choice to play the sensitive High King with an addictive personality.





Lot: Robert Pattinson (Twilight) ...I took a giant leap-of-faith with my imaginary casting of Robert Pattinson, as Sir Lot. I had only seen him briefly (playing a small part in two of the Harry Potter films). However, with the prospects of his staring role in the movie Twilight (based on the popular novel with the same name, and my current obsession with the vampire series), I have a gut feeling that no one but Robert could portray misunderstood anti-hero Lot.

Meleagant: Tom Sturridge (Vanity Fair) ...At first I considered him for the role of Nentres. Yet, For purely selfish reasons (after all this is my fantasy casting call), I would be interested in watching him take on the challenging role of young man on a spiral decent into insanity.

Nentres: Scott Michael Foster (Greek)...He would be the ideal judicious, loyal and insightful member of the Young Royal Guard.

Nimue: Abbie Cornish (Stop-loss, Candy)...Although she is a little older than I had imagined in the novel...she still possesses an ethereal beauty that radiates off the screen.

Morgause: Vanessa Hudgens (Thirteen, High School Musical)...Again, an odd choice for a crucial part. Yet, I see something undiscovered, deep, dark and sensual, just waiting to escape.

Lady of the Lake: Rosemary Gore (Soulmates)...As a teenager, Rosemary would occasionally hang out at our house. There was always a mystical "otherworldly" quality about her, that would make her the perfect person to play Merlin's mother, and Ambrosius love interest.

That was fun. Thank you so much for allowing my over-active imagination to run amok.
