Taylor Lautner aka Jacob Black "It's a wolf Thing"

While the second installment of the "Twilight Saga" continues to ride high at the box office, we'd be remiss if we didn't check in with Taylor Lautner to see what's on his mind these days. With help from our friends at MTV Radio, read on for an interview with the breakout star that's nearly as revealing as all those shirtless-wolf-pack scenes.

MTV: What did you see as your biggest challenge heading into the "New Moon" shoot?

Taylor Lautner: Basically, my job was to continue what I started in "Twilight," which was [depicting] this extremely happy, friendly, outgoing guy who is best friends with Bella. I had to continue that for the first half of the film, but as soon as I transform, I snap and become a completely different person. I'm dealing with my issues, and it's really hard for me.

MTV: So it wasn't just the physical requirements, in your mind.

Lautner: Jacob transforms a lot in "New Moon," not only physically but mentally and emotionally as well. So it was a matter of getting to the gym and eating the right foods and a lot of it, but also reading and studying the book and my character over and over and over again so I could have this character down because he changes in many, many different ways.

MTV: When you were working out and bulking up, how did you block out all the pressure?

Lautner: I knew where my character went in "New Moon," and that's all I tried to stay focused on. I couldn't control things outside, I couldn't control the media, but I could control what I was doing to portray Jacob Black correctly. So that's what I stayed focused on the whole entire time.

MTV: There are a lot of shirtless moments in "New Moon," and some critics have called them gratuitous. As an actor, do you find it hard to not also laugh at some of those scenes?

Lautner: [When Jacob] wipes her blood? Seriously, I start laughing so hard every time I see [that scene]. "Oh, you're bleeding? Let me fix it." It's so embarrassing. Here's the thing: There's a reason he's not wearing clothes all the time. When he transforms, all his clothes get shredded; he can't help it. And when he goes into the woods to get something to put on, so he's not naked, it's just a ripped pair of jean shorts. And he's also hot [his temperature is] 108 degrees, so that's another reason.

MTV: Now that you've got all these muscles, will you only accept those kinds of roles from here on out?

Lautner: Look, I love this character, I love this story. Putting on the weight and not wearing much clothing was required by the role. A year from now, if I love a character that requires me to lose 40 pounds, I'm ready to do it.

MTV: What do you see as the key difference between fans who call themselves Team Edward and those who are Team Jacob?

Lautner: Well, Edward and Jacob are complete opposite guys. They are hot and cold. [He laughs.] Literally. I personally love Jacob and Bella's relationship, how they began as best friends and it starts to grow into something more and more. Both guys are in love with Bella. Both guys are always going to be there for Bella, and they're protective. Ultimately, I think it's about what kind of guy you like.

New Moon movie secrets from the wolfpack

ET has another exciting look inside 'The Twilight Saga: New Moon,' where Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart dish on what fans can expect from the highly anticipated sequel.

"'New Moon' is going to be stepped up a whole other notch," Taylor says. "The whole Wolf Pack is very tightly bound -- they are very close."

Kristen agrees, saying 'New Moon''s Wolf Pack brings the movie to another level.

"There's something about the wolves, it's such a different movie, all of a sudden this completely new world has been introduced," she says. "It's more animalistic, more violent."

Check out the video for a look inside all of 'New Moon''s special effects, and for more on the Wolf Pack.

Twilight WatchAttack of the Wolves, Part Three: Meet Chaske Spencer

From Vanity Fair Twilight Watch

Photosource

(sv: Vill du f artikeln versatt till svenska? Sg d till mig!)

Chaske Spencer. We recently called him at his Brooklyn apartment, where he talked about the hurricane of stardom, the brotherhood he shares with his fellow wolves, and just what kind of music the pack listens to while pumping iron.

VF.com: How did you get the part of Wolf Pack leader, Sam Uley?

Chaske Spencer: It was one of the weirdest auditions Ive done. We put it on tape, and usually the process is: you meet the casting director, get a callback, then you meet the producer and director. This just went straight from tape. I auditioned for all of the parts of the Wolf Pack; they called me back and told me what part I had. Also, I didnt really know who [the character] was because I didnt know much about Twilight. Then I figured it out and said, Wow, thats a really good part. Its amazing. Ive never gotten a part like that before.

Once you got the part, did you go back and read the books?

Yeah, I started with New Moon. Then I started dabbling in Eclipse because theres a lot of back-story to my character. I really tried to relate to those characters, do my job and then go to the gym.

How much time did you have between finding out you got the role and actually starting shooting?

Not muchabout three weeks. They got us a trainer and really started throwing us into the work, into working out, which was with a gentleman who helped out on 300. I was pretty psyched about that; it was really tough. I was [already] in shape, but when he got his hands on me, it was a whole different beast altogether. I put on 25 pounds in those two months. It just happenedone day, I stepped out of the shower, took a look at myself, and I didnt recognize my own body.

You all went through this together as a pack, too.

Yeah, that was the one thing that was really cool; it did bond us. Were unknowns, and we couldnt tell anyone for a month that we were cast. So we just talked to each other, made sure we kept each other in check, got competitive with one another. It was like [we were] brothers. I gained so many family members through this, which Im really grateful for.

So you were this unknown actor living in New York who suddenly found himself on the set of this huge studio blockbuster. What was that like?

Its so surreal, I mean, Im feeling it right now! On the film sets of New Moon and Eclipse, I feel safe. Its like youre in the center of the hurricane, but outside is where it starts to get chaotic. I would say that, in the last few days, I started noticing that Im in this huge franchise. Im going to be in one of the biggest movies of the year, and its a little surreal, frightening, and exciting all together. Its like one big roller-coaster ride.

What are you doing to prepare for it?

No one can give you a book on how to deal with it. Theres not much you can do about it except for just having a good head on your shoulders. You have to go on your own and figure it out.

Like many of the other wolves, you have your own Twitter page, too.

Its really cool. Its like being in this rock band. Its nothing like Ive ever done before on any film or playyou really interact with the fans. I Twitter for the Twilight fans. I can write where Im going, what Im doingI try to keep it general so I dont give too much awayand the fans are great! Theyre really excited about it; some even know more about me than I do myself!

Speaking of rock bands, Kiowa [Gordon] said you got him listening to Phoenix and Grizzly Bear.

Kiowa and Tyson Houseman are really into music, and we talk about that. Im really into discovering new music. Im a drummer, and I live with a musicianhes in a band called The 5 OClock Heroes. Im not just plugging him because hes my roommate; his band is really good. He introduces me to all of the cool new bands, and weve had musicians coming over to our apartment for a while now. I like this new cat, Liam Finn, who I heard about in Australia. I also just got the New Moon soundtrack, and Im really impressed! I think its amazing. Ive been listening to it all day actually. I like Band of Skulls, and Ive been a fan of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club for years now. This is going to be my album for the month.

What did the wolves listen to during workouts?

I brought my iPod in, and I had tracks that would help us get through the workout. We played the Beastie Boys Sabotage, Metallicas Orion, ACDCthat really pumped us upsome Guns N Roses, Soundgarden, Nirvana. I like to workout to a lot of hip-hop, too.

Youre the oldest wolf in the pack.

Yeah, and its funny: I play the alpha wolf, the leader, and I kind of fell into that role. I dont know how that happens. But I am the oldestI had a few films under my beltand I kind of helped some of the other guys. Im very protective of them. If anyone tried to hurt them, Id probably go ballistic. Theyre good guys. We take care of one another. It was like freshman coming into high school; we were the new group. We all come from different backgrounds, too. Were Native Americans and we have a different outlook on things. We didnt come to mess around; we came with our A-game, and we definitely made sure our presence was known.

What is your Native American background?

Im Lakota Sioux. Whats cool is that Stephenie [Meyer]s written this amazing story that is more contemporary Native American. Its not like I was wearing leather and feathers, which Ive been used to doing. I didnt have to go too much into my own background.

You said in your Twitter feed: I love being a wolf!

[Laughs] I like my role. When I was a kid, I was into the Anne Rice novels, but I never got to discover werewolves until this. What I like is that its given me a new body, actually. The workouts and all of that stuffwho doesnt want to be a werewolf? (Its tongue-in-cheek when I say stuff like that.)

When this is all over, what kind of movies do you want to make?

I just look at the kind of actors I really like; I like Gene Hackman. The actors I admire are character actors. I just want to do really good work. I mean, this is huge. I really dont know what I can do after this! Go the independent route maybe.

Lets do some wordplay. Please give one word to describe each of the actors you work with in New Moon, starting with Alex Meraz [Paul].

Primal.

Bronson Pelletier [Jared].

Jokester.

Kristen Stewart [Bella Swan].

Fighter.

Gil Birmingham [Billy Black].

Heart-and-soul.

Tyson Houseman [Quil Ateara].

Intelligent.

Kiowa Gordon [Embry Call].

Goofy.

Taylor Lautner [Jacob Black].

Loveable.
